Former Philippines statesman and former president Fidel Ramos explains to The Star journalist RUBEN SARIO his views on how neighbours can live together, harmonising their fight against terrorism, poverty and economic growth for a better life for their people. He sees a world where Asian countries will have to depend on themselves for stable security and economic growth without the likes of George W. Bush hovering over their affairs in handling the question of the war against terror.

FIDEL V. Ramos strides into the presidential suite at the Magellan Wing of the Sutera Harbour Resort chomping an unlit cigar.
