KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Embassy in Hanoi has directed its Consul in Ho Chi Minh City to visit advertising executive Pius Eugene Gerard who was sentenced by a Vietnamese court to two years' jail on Tuesday for attempting to smuggle out US$51,000 (RM193,800) in a suitcase.

Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam, Datuk Ahmad Anuar Abdul Hamid, said yesterday that the Consul would seek the help of the Vietnamese prison authorities to visit Gerard soon before forwarding a report to Wisma Putra.
