Syed Hamid: Ties should not be based on individuals

KUALA LUMPUR: Diplomatic ties between countries should be based on mutual interests such as political, economic and social issues and not on individuals, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar. 

“You must be very clear that a relationship between us and the United States cannot be based on individuals or personalities,” he said when asked whether US-Malaysia ties would improve following the release of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from prison after he was acquitted of a sodomy charge.
