KUALA LUMPUR: The defence yesterday challenged the evidence of a former Perwaja Steel Sdn Bhd group senior manager on his meeting with a Japanese corporation’s former general manager to discuss a RM76.4mil payment in 1995.

Tan Sri Eric Chia’s lawyer attempted to discredit prosecution witness Akram Ayop @ Che Ayub by tendering two letters in which he denied ever meeting NKK Corporation’s former general manager N. Otani and requesting Otani to provide a written reply to questions asked during that meeting.
