Support ‘caring club’ plan, Endon urges private colleges

JOHOR BARU: Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood has called on private institutions of higher learning to give their fullest support to the setting up of Kelab Penyayang, an affiliate of the Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (Penyayang). 

She said that following the successful setting up of the club at public institutions of higher learning institutions, it was the private institutions’ turn to show their support. 

“Through the clubs, students will visit welfare homes at least twice a week to help the management of the homes in taking care of the residents.

“The ultimate aim of this programme, which is also my hope, is for the students to spread the caring message at their workplaces once they have graduated,” she said in her speech after receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humanity from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia here at its 33rd convocation yesterday. 

Sultanah Zanariah Tunku Ahmad of Johor, who is UTM chancellor, presented the honorary doctorate. 

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman were also present at the ceremony. 

“My work has just started and my journey is still far from its end. There are still a lot of things that I need to do and this award is an encouragement and acknowledgement to those who have supported me in my efforts,” said Endon, who is Penyayang chairman.
