KUALA LUMPUR: A former Perwaja Steel Sdn Bhd company secretary testified that Tan Sri Eric Chia Eng Hock’s secretary had asked her to backdate a letter specifying the details of the RM76.4mil payment from Perwaja Rolling Mill and Development Sdn Bhd to NKK Corp, Japan.

Tina Ong, 44, who was the assistant company secretary at the time, told the Sessions Court that Azizan Kamaruddin had approached her some time between June and August 1994 and handed the letter dated Jan 20, 1994, which was to be filed together with the three phases of technical assistance agreements between Perwaja Rolling Mill and Development and NKK Corp.
