PETALING JAYA: Unhappy over getting their salaries late, at least three workers from a sofa-manufacturing factory in Kampung Baru Subang here decided to confront their boss with their grouses.
The confrontation grew into an argument which then escalated into a brawl.
By the time it was all over, factory owner Willy Teh Leong Ching, 47 was unconscious in a pool of blood.
Police rushed him to the Sungai Buloh hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
OCPD Senior Asst Comm II Datuk Ghazali Md Amin said Teh, who stayed in Taman Subang Perdana and had operated the factory for five years, died of massive blood loss.
He said a police team, responding to an anonymous call, found Teh lying unconscious on the floor inside the factory at 11.45pm on Monday.
“We believed he was hit with blunt objects,” he said.
He added that the factory, Eurotex Industries, had hired 20 illegal production workers comprising Indonesians, Bangladeshis and Myanmar nationals.
Investigations showed Teh stayed back to supervise his workers, who were loading some sofa sets into a container for export.
“Halfway through their work, at least three workers complained to Teh for not being paid on time. We learnt that payments had been delayed until the 10th day of the month,” he said.
The assailants as well as the other workers there have fled. The workers hostel was also empty, he said.
