THE NUMBER of foreigners learning han yu (Chinese language) has reached 25 million people, indicating a new wave of interest in the language due to the emergence of China as a world economic power, Nanyang Siang Pau reported on its front page yesterday.
The daily reported that in the past, students formed the majority of foreigners learning the language, but in recent years those from the business and trading community were increasingly keen.
