KUALA LUMPUR: Smokers beware. Starting today, those caught with cigarette packets without security ink marks or banderols will be slapped with a RM100 compound fine for each packet in their possession by officers from the Customs Department.
Under Section 110 of the Customs Act 1967, the officers are empowered to conduct searches on anyone suspected to be in possession of smuggled or counterfeit cigarettes.
