KUCHING: An American engineer has been found dead at a low budget hotel at Jalan Green Hill here.

Police have identified the 39-year-old as Mark Edward Walters from California.

A bellboy, who went to check on him after he failed to check out at 1pm on Sunday, found his body.

Police found bloodstains on the floor of his room and are investigating why Walters, who had a room at a nearby five-star hotel, had booked into the low-budget hotel on Friday afternoon for a two-day stay.

Walters, who worked for US-based Kal Tencor, a supplier of wafer manufacturer 1st Silicon here, had been staying at the five-star hotel since his arrival here a month ago.

In Klang, the body of a man was found in a drain at the Sungai Rasah light industrial area here yesterday.

Police believe the partially decomposed body belonged to a Chinese man in his 30s.
