SEPANG: A report containing details on the “build and sell” concept is being prepared by the Housing and Local Government Ministry for consideration by the Cabinet.

Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the report would contain the pros and cons of the concept as well as feedback, ideas and suggestions received from various parties.

“We have been encouraging the developers to ‘build and sell’. Developers who build and sell have a lot of incentives.

“They do not need licences or advertising permits to sell the houses because they are already there,” he told reporters yesterday after opening the Mawar Haemodialysis Centre (Sepang branch).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had said in May that the Government was considering the possibility of making developers build houses first before selling them.

On the abolishment of certificates of fitness for new buildings, Ong said that ideas and views voiced through the media, associations, internal dialogues and consultations would be considered in another report being prepared for the Cabinet.

He said no timeframe had been set for the submission of the two reports to the Cabinet.

“What is important is that we do not make any mistakes and take all views into consideration. Setting a deadline would make things too rigid. We do not want to rush into something,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Ong called on the public to give more help to the sick and less fortunate.

“We hope the public who have been successful in their businesses or careers will help the less fortunate and donate to haemodialysis centres,” he added.
