BREEDERS of new varieties of plants and seeds will now receive legislative protection from the Agriculture and Agro-Based Ministry with the enactment of the Protection of New Plant Varieties Act 2004.
Parliamentary secretary to the ministry Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim said a Plant Varieties Board would be responsible for registering new varieties, which would allow breeders to market and commercialise their findings.
