MSDs to monitor, look after students

THE 11 Malaysian Student Departments (MSDs) abroad are set up to monitor the activities of local students and to look after their welfare, said Higher Education parliamentary secretary Datuk Dr Adham Baba. 

“Officers at the MSDs will make sure that its functions are fulfilled such as looking after students' welfare, providing aid and facilities, besides having the latest information on student activities and their academic achievements,” he said yesterday in reply to Ismail Sabri Yaakob (BN – Bera) during question session. 

In reply to Liow Tiong Lai (BN – Bentong) who asked if students were sent to other countries after the Sept 11 attacks, Dr Adham said more students were being sent to countries like Australia, Britain, the Middle East and other European countries. 

Second Finance Minister Senator Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said in reply to Wilfred Madius Tangau (BN – Tuaran) that the Government was considering the possibility of appointing a Sabahan as a Petronas board member.
