CHILDREN born to parents who are permanent residents (PRs) in the country automatically become citizens, according to Deputy Home Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho.
A report in Sin Chew Daily quoted Tan as saying that a person born in the country after the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963 was a citizen if at least one parent was a permanent resident. This is provided for in the Constitution.
