KUALA LUMPUR: Conducting whipping demonstrations in schools to deter students from crimes is counter-productive and contrary to human rights conventions, said the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam).
Commissioner Prof Dr Chiam Heng Keng said Suhakam was concerned the demonstrations would teach children that it was legitimate to use force on their peers either in the form of retaliation or punishment.
