PETALING JAYA: Recalling the last time she saw her husband alive, Jennifer John said there was nothing unusual about him at 10.45pm on Saturday after they returned from a birthday party of a friend's seven-year-old son in SS2.
“He played with our daughter for a while and stepped out of the house again at 11.10pm to meet up with friends at the Royal Selangor Club,” she said in an interview here yesterday.
The charred remains of her husband, lawyer Divakaran M. Nair, were found in a parked car outside their home in Sri Hartamas here on Sunday.
“At 7am I heard shouts and my neighbour was banging at my house door,” she said, adding that by the time she came down the fire had been put out and a crowd had gathered outside her house.
Jennifer said she suspected something bad had happened but did not go near the car as she was holding her daughter and she did not want to frighten her son either.
She said it was the second time that Divakaran had slept in the car.
He had apparently forgotten to bring his house keys and did not want to wake the family up.
Jennifer, 36, who is also a lawyer and a partner in her husband's law firm, said she was not aware if he had enemies.
Both of them, she said, never kept secrets from each other.
She felt there were several unanswered questions surrounding Divakaran's death.
So far, she said, his wallet and his watch have not been found.
“I have been getting contradicting versions of the incident from various quarters and hope the relevant authorities would be able to piece together what actually happened,” she said, adding that Divakaran was a loving and responsible person who never neglected his family.
She said despite his hectic schedule, Divakaran always made time for the family, especially for their children – Divesh, four, and Divya, seven months.
