IPOH: School heads who assault teachers are a disgrace to the teaching profession, said the Congress of Teachers’ Unions in the Education Service.
Secretary-general Shahul Hamid Mydin Shah said school heads should learn to control their temper.
“Even if a teacher is very difficult to deal with, it is not reason enough for the head to be abusive,” he said yesterday.
He called for such school heads to be penalised.
Shahul Hamid was commenting on a case in a Tamil school in Rungkup, Teluk Intan, where the headmistress caned a teacher during a staff meeting last Friday when he criticised her ideas on instilling discipline.
State Education, Human Resources and Multimedia Committee chairman Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the caning incident was a serious case and such practices must be stopped or other school heads would follow suit.
