KUANTAN: Forty Barisan Nasional assemblymen and the sole DAP member were sworn in before Speaker Datuk Wan Razali Wan Mahussin at the State Assembly here yesterday.

Sungai Lembing assemblyman Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah was the only absentee as he was abroad performing the umrah

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob led the assemblymen in taking the oath before Wan Razali at 9.20am.

In his speech, Adnan expressed confidence in Wan Razali who has been reappointed for the second term.

He also called for closer co-operation between the elected representatives, heads of departments and civil servants to ensure that the state and people achieved progress.

“If there is no close co-operation among ourselves, we will not be able to draw up good and effective plans for the people,” added Adnan.

Wan Razali congratulated Adnan and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for leading Barisan to a resounding victory in the recent general elections.

He reminded assemblymen that their victory were due to the popular support of the voters and as such they must find time to work for the people.

On his reappointment, Wan Razali said he was grateful for the trust and “I will try to perform my duties the best possible way that I can.”

“I also hope that all elected representatives will help to preserve the dignity of the Dewan,” he added.
