Ong vows to serve people

PEKAN NENAS: Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting has pledged that he will not neglect issues concerning his constituency despite his busy schedule and heavy responsibilities at the Federal level. 

Ong, who is the MP for Tanjung Piai, assured his constituents that all their grouses would be given attention. 

He said paying attention to the grouses of the constituents was one of the priorities of the elected representatives.  

That was why all Barisan Nasional elected representatives were told to set up service centres in their constituencies, he said.

“One of the pledges in the Barisan’s election manifesto was to improve public delivery system.  

“We have to listen to the people and their problems,” he said at a dinner on Sunday at the Taman Utama service centre here to thank the constituents for supporting the Barisan Nasional in the elections. 

This is one of the two service centres run by the MP of Tanjung Piai and the assemblyman of Pekan Nenas, Wee Jeck Seng. The other one is in Taman Emas Kota. 

Ong said that all letters and complaints received by the service centres would be attended to accordingly even when he was not in the constituency. 

“Matters that cannot be solved by the centres will be brought to my personal attention for action,” he told the several hundred people attending the dinner.  

Ong also went through some letters channelled to the centre. 

The locals formed a queue as soon as Ong stepped into the centre at around 9.30pm and waited to see him, like patients seeking “diagnosis” from a doctor. 

The concerns they raised included minor things like faulty streetlights. 

Some asked for donations while there was even one man who claimed to be living below poverty line, bringing along all his unpaid bills. 

Ong told the centre’s staff to note down the grouses and carry out follow-up actions. 

The two service centres are open on weekdays from 9am to 5pm.
