PETALING JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said wants her ministry staff to not only work with her but also work up a sweat with her twice a week.
The ongoing exercises consist of aerobics every Monday and power walking on Tuesdays at the ministry grounds in Jalan Dato Onn.
There are instructors to lead them. It is good for bonding and they are warming up to each other she said, adding that the exercises last for about 30 minutes.
I am trying to make them more united. There is just something different when people work out together. You just have this feel-good mood, said the Fifth Dan black belt taekwondo exponent on Thursday.
Azalina, who is also the only Malay woman to have a black belt in hup-kwan-do, suggested that Cabinet ministers could have workouts on Wednesdays before their weekly meetings.
I love to exercise and it would be good if I can get the Cabinet to work out every week before the meeting starts at 9.30am.
Maybe, we could start at 7am, then have a shower, change and head for the meeting, she said.
Puteri Umno, which she heads, released a VCD on self-defence about two years ago featuring her as host giving tips about the various ways to protect oneself.
Azalina also said she would invite other ministries such as the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to join in the exercise sessions.
People should start Mondays with a bang. And they will be fit, strong and focused for the entire week. I would love it if we could have the sessions every day, she said.
She also said that the workouts gave her a chance to talk to her staff members on a casual basis.
