IPOH: A hundred students from SMK Jalan Pasir Puteh here will take part in the inaugural Ipoh Starwalk 2004, thanks to the sponsorship by Jennifer Liau, an executive director of car paint distributor Lean Seng Heng (M) Sdn Bhd.
Liau, who is also the Ipoh Love and Care Society president, said she wanted to help reduce social problems and gangsterism in schools.
“We should promote interest in sports among students so that they will stay away from unhealthy activities,” she said.
“I chose to sponsor the students from SMK Jalan Pasir Puteh to encourage them to take part in sports and to let them know that they too can compete with students from premier schools in the city,” added Liau, who would be paying for their registration fees.
Principal Chua Tong Guan said he appreciated Liau's good gesture.
“We want our students to excel not only in their studies but also to take an interest in co-curriculum activities,” he said.
