Pahang government requires three more exco members

KUANTAN: The Pahang government will table a Bill to increase the number of executive councillors from 11 to 14. 

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said amendments had to be made to the state Constitution before the number of exco members could be increased. 

“The state assembly will sit in May, August and November, but the Bill may be tabled as early as May. 

“If I could, I would like to have the amendments made as soon as tomorrow,” he told reporters after the weekly exco meeting. 

Adnan said Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had been informed of the proposed amendments. 

He said expanding the exco was necessary with the increased number of state seats from 38 to 42 and responsibilities of the state government representatives. 

Adnan also named the 11 who would head 16 committees in the administration. 

The Mentri Besar will head three committees (Islamic Affairs and Education; Agriculture, Rural Development and SMIs; and Basic Infrastructure.) 

Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Tan Mohamed Aminuddin Ishak will be in charge of Industrial and Investment; and Felda. 

Others in the committee are: 

Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin (Dong assemblyman) – Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development, Pensioners, Ex-servicemen and NGOs; 

Datuk Maznah Mazlan (Muadzam Shah) – Family Development and Women’s Affairs and Culture and Arts and Tourism; 

Datuk Ahmad Munawar Abd Jalil (Luit) – Islamic Dakwah and Special Functions; 

Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Ismail (Pulau Tawar) – Youth, Sports and Unity; 

Datuk Ishak Muhammad (Bebar) – Health, Community Welfare and Orang Asli Affairs; 

Datuk Hoh Khai Mun (Bilut) – Local Government and Environment; 

Fong Koong Fuee (Cheka) – Human Resource and Consumer Affairs; 

Mohd Soffi Tan Sri Abdul Razak (Benta) – Publicity, Information, Communication and Technology; and 

Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin (Lanchang) – Housing and Growth Centre.
