IPOH: Eight-month-old Mok Yuen Ting, who is suffering from a congenital heart disease, is in need of at least RM12,000 to undergo surgery at the Institute Jantung Negara (IJN).

Her father Mok Chee Wai, 36, a construction worker, said the family could not afford the cost as he had used up his savings for the child's treatment earlier.

“She suffers from breathing difficulties and is on medication to protect her lungs from infection,” Mok said at a press conference at the Perak MCA headquarters here yesterday.

Mok, who is the sole breadwinner in the family, said an IJN specialist had recommended surgery for Yuen Ting, as the chances of recovery would be high. “However, I’m facing financial difficulty and at times have to depend on relatives for support,” said Mok, who has three other children aged between three and 11.

Perak MCA Public Service and Complaints Bureau chief Datuk Lee Kon Yin appealed to the public for donations to help Yuen Ting lead a normal life by undergoing the surgery scheduled for May 3.

Donations can be sent to Perak MCA Public Service & Complaint Bureau, with Yuen Ting’s name written on the reverse side and addressed to Perak MCA, 90-92, Tingkat Satu, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, 30000, Ipoh, Perak. For enquiries, call 05-2536981/2538455.

At the same press conference, three-year-old Ang Yuan Ni who is suffering from hearing impairment received a most meaningful birthday present after the bureau managed to collect another RM45,000 for her to undergo a cochlear implant surgery at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia soon.
