KOTA BARU: Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat was sworn in as Kelantan Mentri Besar for the fourth term last night after PAS was returned with a three-seat majority in Sunday's general election.
The 73-year-old PAS spiritual leader took the oath of office and secrecy before the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Ismail Petra, at Istana Negeri, Kubang Kerian, at 9.45pm.
Following this, Deputy Mentri Besar Ahmad Yakub and nine exco members took their oaths of office.
PAS lost its two-thirds majority when it won 24 of the 45 seats, with Barisan Nasional taking the remaining 21 seats. At parliament level, PAS secured eight seats while Barisan took six
Nik Aziz, who won the Chempaka seat, appointed five new faces in the exco.
They are Husam Musa (Kijang), Mejor (Rtd) Anizam Abd Rahman (Kemahang), Zulkifli Mamat (Pulai Chondong), Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (Panchor) and Abdul Fatah Mahmood (Bukit Panau).
The four former exco members who were retained are Takiyuddin Hassan (Bunut Payong), Hassan Mahmood (Tawang), Datuk Anuar Tan Abdullah (Kota Lama) and Dr Mazian Nik Mohamed (Gaal).
Meanwhile, Terengganu Umno deputy chairman Datuk Idris Jusoh will be sworn in as the new Mentri Besar of Terengganu at Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu tomorrow.
