MOVE ALLOWED: (March 6) The Education Ministry agreed to allow 14 Chinese schools to be relocated to ensure their “survival.” Education Minister Tan Sri Musa Mohamad said the approval to relocate the schools, including 13 which had fewer than 10 pupils, had nothing to do with the elections, as it was always the ministry’s policy to encourage the growth of vernacular schools.

SUBRA DROPPED: (March 10) MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam was dropped from the MIC's list of candidates for the general election. Party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said changes to the list of candidates were needed for MIC representatives to work as a team. Subramaniam's supporters staged a protest outside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's residence at Wisma Putra in Putrajaya after the announcement.
