IPOH: A housewife was charged at the Sessions Court here with killing her 10-day-old infant by stabbing her in the stomach with a pair of scissors.

Jamilah Ahmad, 30, had allegedly stabbed her baby at No. 89, Jalan Kenanga 8, Felcra Changkat Lada, Kampung Gajah, between 8pm on Feb 4 and 6am the following day.

She was charged under Section 309B of the Penal Code for infanticide, which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years.

No plea was recorded from Jamilah as she did not understand the charge read out to her.

Judge Rasidah Chik allowed an application by prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Sarajit Singh to send Jamilah to Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan for psychiatric observation to determine if she was fit for trial, pending mention of the case on March 26.
