PENGERANG: Puteri Umno has started a programme to help improve the standard of English among rural students.

Its chief Datuk Azalina Othman Said said the movement was able to hold the programme as it had members who could teach the language.

“Through the programme, we not only hope to get the students to speak and write better in English and build their confidence,” she said when opening such a class for students under the Penawar state constituency yesterday.

“We are willing to help any division that wants to set up such classes,” she added.

A total of 120 primary and secondary school students had enrolled in the programme.

Azalina said three Felda settlements – Felda Air Tawar 5, Felda Tunggal and Felda Air Tawar 1 – under the Pengerang parliamentary constituency also voiced their interest for a similar programme to be held in their areas.
