KUALA TERENGGANU: Steeped in Chinese and Malay cultural traditions, the Kongsi Raya Chinese New Year open house here, for which the PAS-led government had refused permission, was attended by more than 25,000 people from all races last night.

The crowd jammed the school field of SK Sultan Sulaiman 1 from 8pm with some spilling onto Jalan Sultan Omar and Jalan Engku Sar which was partially closed off. The event was organised for the first time on a large scale by Chinese organisations in the state with support from the Culture, Arts and Tourism Ministry.
