PETALING JAYA: PAS should not politicise the heinous and gruesome rape and murder of 10-year-old Nurul Huda Abdul Ghani as such a crime can occur anywhere, said Deputy Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin.
Such crime has nothing to do with politics but more to do with the socialisation and education of the people, he said yesterday.
He was commenting on a PAS Youth statement, distributed through the Internet, that more crimes like the rape and murder of young girls would occur if Umno continued to ridicule Hudud law.
Zainuddin said it was irresponsible for PAS to make such statements without considering the feelings of the victims family, adding that the causes of such crimes should be studied.
He said practising Hudud or Islamic law was not a factor to the occurrence of such crimes. These incidents can happen in a country where Hudud laws are practised or otherwise, he added.
On the PAS ustaz who told a Friday congregation in Penang that God punished Nurul Huda because her parents did not support PAS Islamic laws, Zainuddin said the statement smeared Islam and its preachers.
What will the non-Muslims think of Islam after they hear such comments from someone who calls himself a preacher?
Non-Muslim may assume that this is the way Muslim preachers think, he said.
