KUALA LUMPUR: Some 49,000 cars brought into the country prior to Jan 1 will not be subjected to the new excise duties imposed on that date, and buyers can now look forward to buying them at last year's prices.
The new ruling was announced by Finance Minister II Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop yesterday, and several car companies immediately expressed their commitment not to raise the prices of their old stocks.
