PETALING JAYA: Just days after a security guard absconded with RM1mil during a collection trip to Mid Valley Megamall, another guard has escaped with RM38,225 collected from two toy stores.

The guard, who was also the van driver, had gone to Mid Valley on Friday for a routine collection with two officers.

After collecting the money from a toy store there, they proceeded to another toy store at the One Utama shopping complex and collected more cash which brought the total to RM38,225.

Deputy OCPD Asst Comm Hassan Rahman said the officers placed the collection into 23 bags before advancing to their third stop at a telecommunication centre.

“The officers alighted from the van and went into the centre, leaving behind the earlier collected sum with the driver,” he said.

He said the officers went for another collection round and were supposed to have banked in the money into a Maybank branch in Damansara Utama.

“But when the officer's returned half-an-hour later, they found the van and driver missing with the earlier collection,” he said, adding that the driver had been working for the security company for less than two months.

Initial investigation revealed that the missing 33-year-old driver from Bandar Baru Wangsa Maju had a previous record for snatch theft and was previously imprisoned for three months.

Yesterday, The Star reported that a security guard, who was employed two weeks earlier, escaped with RM1mil collected from banks and private companies here on Dec 30.
