KUALA LUMPUR: With New Year just a day away, various countdown celebrations will be held in the city.
One event is the Petronas celebration at KLCC Park on New Year’s Eve, with the theme Countdown@KLCC2004.
The occasion, to be aired live over TV3, will kick off with an outdoor concert at 8.45pm followed by a countdown and a seven-minute fireworks display at midnight.
Local artistes such as M. Nasir, Ella, Noraniza Idris, Dayang Nurfaizah, X-Factor, Poetic Ammo, Reshmonu, OAG and NRG are expected to perform in the concert.
Pop diva Siti Nurhaliza is also expected to perform via a live crossover broadcast from Pulau Pangkor.
According to the Putraline light rail transit (LRT) website, the Putraline and Starline LRT services will extend their operating hours today for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Its stations at Kelana Jaya, Bangsar, Pasar Seni, Dang Wangi, Kampung Baru and Ampang Park will close at 2am, while Masjid Jamek and KLCC will close at 3am.
Other Putraline stations will close at 12.45am and its feeder buses will also extend its service.
For Starline, its Hang Tuah and Masjid Jamek stations will shut at 3am. All other stations will close at 12.45am.

Luxury hotels in the city here have reported brisk business with the top-tier ones having 100% occupancy, particularly with the countdown to 2004 tonight.
Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur general manager Richard W. Riley said his 701-room five-star hotel was running at full occupancy, and all its food and beverage outlets had also been fully booked for New Year’s Eve.
The hotel will also be charging RM50 cover charge per head at its lobby lounge.
Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur director of communications Liza Kuddoos said the hotel’s 643 rooms had been fully booked since early November.
The hotel is also imposing a cover charge of RM65++ inclusive of a drink at its Lounge on the Park.
