MALACCA: One of five Indonesians robbers died after he fell on his own parang while running away from their victims and policemen.

The Indonesian is believed to have slipped while running and accidentally stabbed himself in the abdomen with the parang that he was carrying.

A handphone, some cash and an Indonesian passport were recovered from his body found some 500m from the house of vegetable seller Kheck Sing Tee whom they had just robbed.

The dead man and four others had earlier robbed Kheck and his wife outside their double storey house in Taman Gadong Perdana, Pulau Gadong.

The couple were leaving for the wholesale market at 3.30am yesterday.

Unsatisfied with the RM1,000 cash and jewellery, the robbers forced the couple to open the door of their home but were spotted by Kheck’s daughter who then raised the alarm

According to 56-year-old Kheck, the robbers were unaware that his daughter had called her uncle for help and continued to ransack the house for valuables.

The uncle, his son and two other friends surprised the robbers and a fight then ensued. A police team also arrived shortly.

Upon seeing the police, the robbers ran out of the house in two different directions.

Police had classified the case as robbery, said Chief Police officer Datuk SAC 1 Christopher Wan.

Kheck suffered several cuts on his left hand while one of the friends suffered a back injury.

Police are still looking for the four remaining robbers.
