Power to summon ‘open to abuse’

PETALING JAYA: The move to give all policemen the power to issue traffic summonses has drawn flak, with critics saying it can be abused.  

“A traffic offence is not like a civil disorder. You need the presence of uniformed policemen to deter would-be offenders and not for them to hide behind trees,” said Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association president Datuk Hamdan Adnan.
