IPOH: Revellers at the state-level Christmas open house in Dataran Ipoh on Saturday will have a wide choice of local delicacies and hawker food.

The event’s organising committee publicity chief Thong Fah Chong said 22 stalls, sponsored by the state government and private sector, would offer food such as Penang fried kuey teow, roti canai, vegetarian noodles, Singapore fried rice and various drinks.

The public could obtain free food and drinks coupons at a booth near the stalls, he added.

“This is a mesra rakyat programme and is very meaningful to the state as it will strengthen the ties of friendship among the people of all religions and races.

“We hope the public will turn out in full force to support it,” he said at the state MCA headquarters here yesterday.

Thong, who is Ipoh Timur MP, said there would be performances by singer Amy Mastura, state cultural dancers Kumpulan Selendang Perak, a Chinese cultural troupe from the Poi Lam High School and an Indian cultural group.

He said the royal guest-of-honour Raja Muda of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah would distribute gifts to children from five charitable homes in the Kinta valley.

The Raja di-Hilir of Perak Datuk Seri Raja Ja’afar Raja Muda Musa and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali would also be present at the event, he added.
