NRD counter in PJ open for MyKad application

PETALING JAYA: The National Registration Department counter here is open today for MyKad applications, although it is Christmas Day.

NRD public relations officer Rene Harlene Drahman said the counter would be manned as usual from 8am to 4pm, but only for those with appointments.

She added that the counter would also be open this weekend, for those with appointments, during the same hours.

Rene Harlene said the department decided to leave the counter open because of the large crowd at NRD offices throughout the country who had the misconception that the deadline for the free identity card was at the end of this month.

She said the large crowd was also because the public took advantage of the school holidays.

She added that applicants are given until the end of 2005 to exchange their present identity cards for MyKad, free-of-charge.
