KUCHING: The Sarawak Museum received a copy of Power and Prowess: The Origins of Brooke Kingship in Sarawak from its author Dr John Walker yesterday.

Dr Walker handed over the book to museum director Sanib Said after giving a lecture on The Colony of Kingdom: James Brooke and Sarawak at Dewan Tun Abdul Razak here.

His talk explored the nature of Brooke’s power and the role of the locals in the first Rajah’s ascension to power.

Dr Walker, who teaches politics at the University of New South Wales, has written several articles on Sarawak's history in the Sarawak Museum Journal, Borneo Research Bulletin and Encyclopaedia of Iban Studies.

His research is focused on politics, culture and change in 19th century Sarawak.
