KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1,500 needy pupils received education aid worth RM88 each during the Educare 2003 programme at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple in Sentul here.

The pupils received school uniforms, shoes, stationery, books and schoolbags yesterday.

The items were donated by the public and collected at 19 participating Parkson Stores.

The programme was held for the third consecutive year by the Siri Jayanthi Sunday Dhamma School.

A fair held yesterday as part of the programme treated visitors to performances by the visiting Sri Lankan Dance Troupe.

Educare 2003 patron Datuk Paduka Dr Saleha Mohd Ali, who launched the event, handed over a RM10,000 cheque for next year's Educare programme to school principal Ven B. Saranankara Thero, who is also Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple chief high priest.
