GERIK: The body of a 29-year-old soldier who went missing while on patrol at Sungai Machang at the Royal Belum Forest, 500m from the Thai border, has been found.

Gerik deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Ismail Deraksa said Prebet Mohamad Zakri Zainal Abidin’s body was found at around 9.45am yesterday.

Mohamad Zakri and six others of the Territorial Army 303 Battalion based in Pengkalan Hulu were walking in the river but due to heavy rain, a strong undercurrent swept them away at 5pm on Monday.

The body of the patrol leader, 39-year-old Pegawai Waren II Mazlan Othman, was found at 2.30pm on Wednesday following joint search and rescue efforts by the air force, navy and police special task force. The others managed to swim to safety.
