Indian stars to light up Astro Vaanavil film fest
KUALA LUMPUR: A host of Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu actors and actresses are expected to attend Astro Vaanavil’s Indian Film Festival 2003 (IFF03) show at Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands at 8pm on Nov 30.
Among the stars who have confirmed participation are Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Anupam Kher, Sarathkumar, Rathika, Madhavan, Raveena Tandon, Junior NTR, Sri Devi, Chiranjivee and renowned director Yash Chopra and music director A.R. Rahman.
High Commissioner of India Her Excellency Veena Sikri, Dr Rajamani Chellamuthu and Astro's director of regulatory and corporate affairs Tengku Anuar Mussaddad at the launching of the Astro Vaanavil's Indian Film Festival.
Several films in various Indian languages will be screened at the KLCC and Mega Mall between Dec 1 and Dec 6.
The inaugural IFF03 is organised by the Indian High Commission and Astro in conjunction with Incredible India 2003 Trade and Investment Exhibition, which would be held at PWTC between Dec 2 and 6. Tourism Malaysia and Resorts World Berhad support the IFF03.
Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Veena Sikri unveiled the IFF03 set, designed by the Astro production design team led by Har Kok Kit.
“The response for Indian films is very encouraging in Malaysia,” Sikri said in her speech, adding that many film directors also chose Malaysia as their location for their films.
Astro Vaanavil’s head of Indian Language Programming, Dr. Rajamani Chellamuthu said Astro Vaanavil would broadcast the show live while arrangements were being made to air it in Doordharsan, the state-owned Indian television station.
