SUBANG: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who returned from a two-week vacation, said he had the chance to relax and was looking forward to finally being able to celebrate Hari Raya with his family.
For 22 years I did not celebrate Hari Raya and I had to work on that day. This year I want to celebrate. It's been a long time, he said, adding that he had not decided where to celebrate the occasion.
On whether people could still visit him at his residence, Dr Mahathir said they could but he hoped there would not be a big crowd.
Asked where he would be, he said: If they want to look for me, they can do so. If they happen to find me, so be it.
Dr Mahathir said his vacation went off quite well and he was able to relax, read and write a little.
On what he thought of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's approach so far, he said Abdullah had been well-received.
Even (Gerakan president Datuk Seri Dr Lim) Keng Yaik said he was impressed with the Prime Minister, he said.
Asked to comment on the post of the Deputy Prime Minister which was still vacant, Dr Mahathir said:
That is up to the Prime Minister, not me. As an ordinary citizen, I will wait, he said.
During the press conference, reporters asking questions often made a slip of the tongue and called Dr Mahathir Datuk Seri as they had not gotten used to his new title, forcing him to quip:
It's okay. Datuk Seri can also do. Tun is a just little shorter and Datuk Seri is a little longer.
