JOHOR BARU: An assemblyman here claimed that a sharp drop in business at Pasar Bakti had caused many of the hawkers there to borrow from loan sharks to make ends meet.
Referring to a koay teow soup seller at Pasar Bakti who allegedly committed suicide because of harassment from ah longs, Khoo Kong Ek (BN – Skudai) said financial desperation had forced some of the 102 hawkers there to obtain loans from loan sharks.
