JOHOR BARU: An assemblyman here claimed that a sharp drop in business at Pasar Bakti had caused many of the hawkers there to borrow from loan sharks to make ends meet.
Referring to a koay teow soup seller at Pasar Bakti who allegedly committed suicide because of harassment from ah longs, Khoo Kong Ek (BN Skudai) said financial desperation had forced some of the 102 hawkers there to obtain loans from loan sharks.
