GENTING HIGHLANDS: There has been an increase in the number of participating outlets offering good discounts since the Mega Sales Carnival campaign was initiated in 2000, said Deputy Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow.

The number had reached 8,282 retailers nationwide compared to 1,387 previously, he said.

“This is a big attraction for local and foreign tourists,'' he said, adding that September's tourist arrivals had reached 920,000 because of the August Mega Sales.

Fu said the ministry would go all out to promote the campaign to boost domestic tourism and urged more retailers to participate in the campaign.

Speaking yesterday after launching Genting Highlands Resort's ‘Let's Celebrate 2003’ – the holiday resort's year-end extravaganza, Fu complimented the management for being creative in introducing international performances.

The resort's executive vice president Lee Choong Yan, whose speech was read by senior vice president public relations and media Datuk Anthony Yeo, said the comprehensive promotion was a compilation of over 30 international class entertainment programmes, shows and events.

“Over the next two months, we have something exciting for everyone such as concerts, fashion shows, golf clinics, cartoon acts and a comedy show,” he said.
