PENANG: Penang MCA will organise a unity dinner jointly with Gerakan for the benefit of Barisan Nasional, state MCA chairman Wong Kam Hoong said.
He said Penang MCA would have no problem holding a dinner with its Gerakan counterparts as it would strengthen component parties in Barisan.
There is nothing strange about MCA and Gerakan jointly organising a unity dinner as we are part of the big BN family, he said.
Anything that can help improve relationships between the component parties is welcomed, he said, adding that the parties must also look forward and not let the past affect them.
Wong was responding to Alor Star MCA division chief Datuk Chor Chee Heungs statement that unity dinners would be held in other states after the grand unity dinner to be jointly organised by the Alor Star MCA and Gerakan divisions on Dec 18.
Earlier, Wong, who is also the Bayan Baru Welfare Association chairman, handed out funds and aid to a family in Jalan Relau whose house was gutted in a fire last Friday morning.
