KUALA LUMPUR: Some 350 needy people comprising the elderly, orphans, and the disabled received RM100 each during a zakat and Hari Raya aid presentation ceremony at the Cheras Recreation Centre at Jalan Peel, yesterday.

Apart from the 5kg of rice, dates, fruit pickles, and a tin of biscuits, they also received two kain pelekat (for men), a batik sarong and telekung (for women), and schoolbags (for school-going children). This was the ninth time the ceremony was held by the Cheras Umno division.

During the ceremony, a 17-year-old kidney patient Muhammad Firdaus Omar, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation after undergoing kidney transplant surgery on Aug 27, also received a RM5,000 donation.

Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Syed Ali Alhabshee said he learnt of Muhammad Firdaus’ plight from television news.
