“We decided to set up an alumni association with the objective of complementing the fund by providing additional financial and other support for needy and deserving students.

“The association will also enable us to keep in touch and organise social activities. We will be submitting our application to the Registrar of Societies in due course,'' he added.

At a recent dinner, Star Publications (M) Bhd managing director Datuk Steven Tan had called on recipients to form an association. Since its inception in 1994, the fund has disbursed 1,450 scholarship awards worth RM30mil.

Another recipient, Anthony David said that other than networking and getting together, the association will be a resource centre for members.

“We hope to provide members with information on job opportunities available especially in companies where our members are gainfully employed,” he said.

Membership of the association will be open to recipients. Those who are interested call Teoh at 016-3301337 or Anthony at 012-2280395; e-mail: jeffteoh@hotmail.com or edufund@thestar.com.my
