INDIAN Progressive Front president Datuk M.G. Pandithan has no right to ask MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to step down as party president, Tamil Nesan reported, quoting an Umno division leader in a front-page story.
The daily quoted Sungai Siput Umno division pro tem committee chairman Datuk Sazlan Mohd Samin as saying that the unbecoming conduct of Pandithan had angered Malays as well.
Sungai Siput Umno division will bring the matter to higher authorities if Pandithan continues to harp on the issue, he said at a buka puasa dinner hosted by Samy Vellu in a hotel in Ipoh on Saturday.
In its editorial, Malaysia Nanban raised concerns over the hudud law in Terengganu, fearing that the implementation would curtail the religious rights of non-Muslims in the state.
It commended efforts by the Attorney-Generals Chambers to challenge Terengganus right to enact the laws, saying that the implementation was tantamount to contravening the Federal Constitution.
