PENANG: The state will appeal to the Federal Government to bear the cost of relocating more than 600 families in north Seberang Prai who will be displaced by the much-delayed Sungai Muda flood mitigation project.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Hilmi Yahaya said yesterday that the state could not afford to shoulder the high cost to relocate these families, acquire the land and pay compensation which was expected to be more than RM200mil.
