TEMERLOH: The father of Form Five student Norhasran Hashim, who died after a surgery following an alleged fight with a fellow student in school early this month, wants the authorities to investigate the events that resulted in his death.
“My son told me just before he underwent surgery that he was punched by someone.
“However, a few days before that, he told our family that he had fallen down the staircase,” Hashim Tawang, 58, said at his house at Felda Kota Gelanggi 2, near here yesterday.
Norhasran, of SM Teknik Canggang, had complained of abdominal pains to school authorities on Oct 2.
He was sent to the Jengka Hospital and Mentakab Hospital and when his condition worsened, Norhasran was transferred to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here to undergo surgery on Oct 8. Norhasran died of internal bleeding the next day.
Police have put a 16-year-old Form Four student under remand in connection with the case.
Hashim said a student met him during his son’s funeral on Oct 10 and told him that Norhasran was assaulted by a Form Four student at his school dormitory on Oct 1.
“The student also told me that my son was involved in a fight with another student over cigarette smoking,” he added.
Hashim said he was unhappy with the school’s handling of the matter, claiming that the authorities had not done enough to prevent the incident from occurring.
In Ipoh, the Education Ministry had instructed state departments to set up task force to monitor schools with indisciplinary problems among students.
Deputy Minister Datuk Hon Choon Kim said the task force, to be headed by thestate directors, had to notify the ministry of the schools with high student indiscipline.
He said the ministry had also instructed all district education officers to visit such schools once a week to keep tabs on them.
