KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department will conduct post-basic courses in anaesthesiology and psychiatry at its training colleges from next year to meet the shortage of trained staff in these fields.
State health director Dr Yao Sik Chi said Sarawak lacked anaesthetists, adding that as a short-term measure the department had been training medical assistants (MAs) to administer anaesthesia so that doctors could carry out operations.
